People who start reading the Bible together, finish reading the Bible together!
Pastor Kris and your FAST Leadership Team invite you to join them on a year-long adventure through Scripture using The Bible Recap (TBR) reading plan. Why use TBR? We chose The Bible Recap because they offer tools that will equip us to read, understand, and love the Bible, which, in turn, will help us encounter God in a way that can transform our lives – individually and corporately as a church body. TBR also has a proven track record of helping millions around the world be successful in this effort. Those are great reasons to take advantage of this format.
Important things to know:
The Bible Recap follows a chronological reading plan through the Bible. Plus, the creator and host, Tara-Leigh Cobble provides short daily recaps, highlighting and summarizing what's been read that day in a casual, easy to understand way.
You can use the version of Scripture you prefer. Thrive Church typically uses the New International Version (NIV). TBR uses the New Living Translation. Use the version you like or have. If you're going to use a chronological Bible, be sure to use The Bible Recap's Bible as it follows their unique reading plan. If you need a Bible, let the office know and we'll get you one.
Each day's Bible reading is about 12 minutes long. And each daily recap is about 8 minutes long. That's only 20 minutes a day. Throughout the year, some days may take a little longer, but even those should be less than 30 minutes overall. Timing will also depend on how quickly you read.
The daily recaps are available in book, podcast, or video form and are an important part of this process. The recaps are done well, bringing understanding and clarity to each day's reading. They also highlight something special about God, who he is or how he works. TBR calls them God shots. Though the recaps are important, they are not 'all' of this journey. Please do the reading. That's the most important part.
If you plan to use your smart phone, you can download an app that allows you to have the daily readings at your fingertips while it keeps track of your progress so you don't have to. We like the YouVersion Bible app. (Details below)
If you use the Bible app to access The Bible Recap, you can invite others to join you in your reading by starting a group where you'll be able to see each other's progress and make and read comments on the readings. It's a great way to get and stay connected.
If you form a group, TBR has special resources just for you: a Daily Study Guide (for personal use) and a Weekly Discussion Guide (for groups). Neither are required to participate in this year-long effort. They're just extra for those interested in more.
For families, TBR has been developing resources that will help young Bible readers engage with God's Word in ways they can understand and enjoy. TBR has a daily podcast designed just for kids age 6-12. For teens, it seems most simply prefer the regular TBR plan and use that to participate with the adults on the same journey.
To get you prepared for all that is ahead, TBR has created a series of brief videos that will help you prepare for the adventure. Find them at TheBibleRecap.com/Prep.
This effort can be done on your own, which is totally fine. However, joining others for support and encouragement, discussion, and sharing, can be a great benefit to you and those with whom you are connecting. Make it a goal to talk to at least one person each week about your reading.
Be sure to offer a brief prayer before and after your time in Scripture. Read it with an open heart and mind and try to discern what God may want you to know about the day's reading. Then, follow up with The Bible Recap for the day.
To enhance the journey further, beginning mid-February (after the Thrive Together series), Pastor Kris will focus his sermons for the remainder of the year on something he read each week.
